The SSR/Nagpal Lab is moving to Princeton University in Jan 2022, to help lead new Robotics Interdisciplinary Initiatives, joint between the MAE and CS departments. We have lots of open positions in the SSR Lab, and hope you will consider joining us!
We are especially looking for Postdocs, PhD students, and Staff with interest and expertise in designing and building novel robot hardware (EE and ME) and in computer vision for robotics (CS).
We currently are focusing on several applications of bio-inspired robot swarms: (1) underwater robot swarms capable of environmental monitoring in visually-rich coral reefs and capable of complex autonomous schooling behaviors, (2) robots for human-scale architecture and future manufacturing applications across scales (3) robot swarms for inspection, e.g. our NASA project for inspection of 3D spacecraft surfaces in orbit and (4) bio-inspired robot designs, such as soft climbing robots inspired by caterpillars and self-assembling robots inspired by army ants. Our lab uses inspiration from biology to co-develop algorithms+hardware for collective and embodied intelligence (robot locomotion, sensing, communication, algorithms). Our research is funded by NSF, ONR, NASA, Amazon, and many other agencies.
Diversity and social equity is an important component of the SSR lab culture; I am especially excited to have lab members with interest and experience in DEI organizations (e.g. engineers without borders, SWE, BiR/Black-AI, AI4All etc) and who want to combine innovative science with social impact.
